This class is being taught by Jared Mertens, a certified casting instructor through the Federation of Fly Fishers.  He has an extensive background in the fishing industry, currently working at Cabela’s in Scarborough, Maine and offering casting clinics there on some weekends.  Jared also has instructed fly fishing in the Orvis Saltwater Flyfishing school on Cape Cod, as well as the

LL Bean Flyfishing schools here in Maine. He owned his owned business in Cape Cod, guiding and teaching. Jared has competed in the 2006 World Championship and Emerald World Masters on the USA team in Ireland, he placed third in the Nationals in Long Beach, CA in the Angler’s fly distance with a cast of 183 feet!

 This weekend intro to fly fishing will include:

•    Picking the right outfit to fit your budget and type of fishing

•    Basic casting; forward and backcast, rollcasting, snake roll and wind techniques

•    Entomology and fly talk

•    Proper knot and leader tying

•    Fly presentation, retrieving, and hooking and landing a fish

•    Safely and properly wading

•    Practicing on the water
